Jogging can be dangerous

June 3rd, 2010

This post contributed by Janie Carlson.

I live on the outskirts of Manchester, NH, outside the city center. Every day I jog, rain or shine. Since running on the street has become dangerous with speeding cars, I have started jogging on a bike path close to my apartment. The path is beautiful and winds through a few secluded areas and along the river.

Recently I’ve begun to notice a few unsavory looking characters hanging around the bike path during my run. Several have even aggressively asked me for money or menacingly watched me go by. Before this I never felt scared, or a need to protect myself. I was worried for myself while I was jogging and for the safety of my home while I was out.

I decided I either had to quit jogging or I needed to take some precautions. I thought about getting a big scary dog, but my apartment doesn’t allow pets. I installed a home security system, ADT security in New-Hampshire, and began looking for something to bring with me to protect me on my jogs. I didn’t think I had the upper body strength to wield a club, or for that matter do much damage using it, so that was out. Therefore I looked into carrying some other type of protection.

After talking to a cop friend, I went to a local firearms shop. At the shop the guy there was very friendly and he showed me some easy to use canisters of Pepper Spray . It was the perfect thing. The canister easily fit in my hand and had a spray projection up to 20 ft. Now when I jog I feel safer because I am carrying protection and I know my home will be safe while I’m gone.

Is It Quality or Quit?

June 3rd, 2010

Thanks to guest blogger Deb Marcus!

I am one of the most protective mothers there are. I feel that if kids are left to their own, they will find much that is inappropriate on the hughesnet satellite internet. I do not think that kids are bad, but that the Internet is a wealth of all that is good and bad. People use it for their own gross ideas, or use it to share ideas of importance.

I like to sit down with the kids on our satellite internet, and look up different breeds of animals, types of foods, and techniques for creating art pieces. When using the hughes net broadband internetwith my children, it really is not about what we find, but that we are learning something new together. When your four year old says, “Did you know that there are hundreds of species in each mammal group?” it is a very proud moment.

Kids will learn when guided by their parental figure, and we owe it to our kids to be the best figure we can, so that they will grow up confident, bright indivi

Mantra on Friday.

June 2nd, 2010

How you see yourself determines
the level of success you will achieve in life.
Your positive self-image
is a major key to your future success.
Developing a positive self-image
is based on the principle
that each of us is the product of
what we think and believe about ourselves.
The more positive your self-image,
the more opportunities you will have to achieve success.
Eventually, all of us have to come to grips with how we see ourselves.
How do you see yourself?
When you look into the mirror, what do you see?
This is a very important question
and you should really take a moment and think about it.

Dear Lord…

June 2nd, 2010

Dear Lord,

I got a phonecall yesterday. It was from someone I never expect. I had goosebumps all over me as I was talking to the other end, I was amazed. All along, I was thinking about you. You showed me what it is to believe in miracles. I am pretty sure you had something to do with it again. You bugged them to give me a call  right?

The 1st step of this blessed journey will be this Friday at 10-12nn and I am also sure that you already knew about it :) . You always know what’s in store for me hee hee. Despite this good news, I am worried and negative thoughts have been clouting my mind again. You know how my mind works at this kind of suprises.  Please take those negative vibes away from me and let me just enjoy this journey.  One thing’s for sure, I am not afraid whatever will be the outcome of this because I leave it all up to you. I trust that you know better and that you will give me what would be best for my family. I love them to bits and we deserved this break, my husband most especially. He has been very hardworking and selfless all these time and I wanted to return him a favor. I also want to give the best and most comfortable life for our son.

I just pray that if you really like me to pursue this, bless me with the best and hugest wisdom as I embark the 2-hour ordeal. Although, honestly, I would love to have this break and take this leap. This, I think is what we need now. I know you know what my heart wants but I will still wait and be patient with your plan.

If and when I get this, please help me to remain humble, to be generous and to be very good at this craft. I promise to take care of this wonderful and amazing blessings and that this would be the start for me to give more rather than get more.

Thank you so much Lord.

Help me on Friday, give me all the wisdom, confidence and of course, the best answers they are seeking for.

Olive Garden Is A Great Go To Place To Eat

June 2nd, 2010

Guested by William Toobin

I love Italian food a lot. So once a week I treat myself to a great, tasty meal from my local Olive Garden. I set my home security alarm I just got at adt.com, and I was off. I always start off with a half of a caraffe, filled with their Lambrusco wine and a bowl of their famous house salad. Of course their bread sticks are a welcome as well. For the appetizer I decided to go with the stuffed mushrooms. They are stuffed with parmesan, mozzerella and romano cheeses, along with a clam and herb breading that is baked into the cap of the mushroom. I can never finish them all, so they accompany me to my house for a midnight snack. At this point I am feeling a little full, nothing that a couple glasses of water will not help, so no worries. Now is the time for the main course, yes! I ordered the Tour of Italy. I must say that the portions were large, and very tasty. The Tour of Italy is made up of three dishes; homemade lasagna, lighlty breaded chicken parmigiana, and a very creamy fettucini alfredo. Now the best part about the meal, I would have to say is the homemade lasagna. the sauce, and blends of cheeses and herbs is to die for. The waitstaff are great, which help keep me coming back almost as much as the food.
